Once the famous jazz alto saxophonist Paul Desmond came up with a five-quarter melody and the whole world learned "Take Five". After that there was a real boom "Take 6", Take 7, 8, 9... Fantastic jazz accordionist Frank Marocco composed a piece that became very popular among accordionists. The author entitled his work "Take Ten".
Accordionist Vladimir Ushakov performed the composition "Take Ten" by Frank Marocco at the Anniversary concert-evening of Accordion Club of Fredericia (Denmark).

Since 1995 the soloists of St. Petersburg Musette ensemble have united powerful cultural creative and friendly relations with the Accordion Orchestra of Daugavpils (Latvia) and its remarkable leader Valery Mikhailovich Hodukin. Petersburg musicians took part in numerous creative projects, accordion festivals, accordion gatherings and other events held at the initiative of Valery Hodukin. Traditional Boogie Woogie performed by Daugavpils Accordionists and Soloists Orchestra Vladimir Ushakov and Sergei Likhachov, conductor Valery Hodukin.

In the days of celebrating the anniversary of victory in the Great Patriotic War, we often think about the Motherland, the significance of this concept, about the love of the Motherland, about the history of the country, about its fate. Let us listen once again to the words of the song of the composer Veniamin Basner and the poet Mikhail Matusovsky "Where does the Motherland begin" performed by the St. Petersburg singer Metodie Buzhor, accompanied by Vladimir Ushakov (piano).

Happy Victory Day, dear friends! Special greetings and sincere thanks to our dear veterans! A few years ago, the St. Petersburg TV channel "100TV" made a recording of the program about creation of song about Victory in the Great Patriotic War (1941-1945). The authors, the poet Yevgeny Golovchiner and composer Victor Busilkov wrote the song "Veterans’ Waltz" and the TV channel has produced the audio recording and video clip. In the recording took part the musicians of St. Petersburg, Chorus of veterans of the Officers' House, children's choir of theater studio and orchestra of the State Capella of Saint-Petersburg under conduction of Vladislav Chernushenko.

The celebration of the 72th anniversary of the great Victory has started. We honor our veterans and thank them for bringing us the happiness of living descendants in the peace for many decades. We were lucky enough to communicate with many colleagues musicians, veterans of the Great Patriotic War. Today we want to congratulate and express our gratitude to our wonderful colleague, performer on the English concertina and xylophone, Valentin G. Osipov. During the war, Valentin Osipov, beeing a boy, has performed in concerts in hospitals more than 800 times, for which after the war he was awarded the medal "For valiant labor in the Great Patriotic War". Valentin Osipov performs a "My Fair Lady Potpourri" composed by Frederick Loewe, accompanied by "Accodemia" accordion trio.

May 7, 1840, was born Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky, a great Russian composer. For accordionists great talent of the composer is significant by the fact that Tchaikovsky was the first classical composers included the accordion in the stuff of symphonic scores of his work. In 1883 he completed the score of the Suite for orchestra No. 2 in C major, the second part (Scherzo burlesque) where in the score by Tchaikovsky himself indicated the Accordeons (harmonica). And so the modern accordionists are grateful to the great composer for the respect shown to their instrument.

Today we continue the topic of initiations. On May 6 an amazing woman celebrates her Birthday. Maya A. Chukhray, a woman utterly devoted to the art, familiar with many composers and performers, leading an active correspondence with musicians using modern means of communication. Famous composer Victor Dikusarov dedicated to this wonderful woman his beautiful composition "Roses". Baltic international accordion quintet "Excelsior" with deep respect congratulates Maya with her Birthday and with best wishes presents the composition "Roses" by Victor Dikusarov.

Today, we indirectly touch on the theme of French chanson, which yesterday's note began. French composer of the early and mid twentieth century, the author of contemporary classical music, Francis Poulenc composed his cycle of Improvisations, one of them, No. 15, was dedicated to the great French singer Edith Piaf. Baltic international accordion quintet "Excelsior" performs "Improvisation No. 15" by Francis Poulenc.
